ANDREAS STENHAGER

¢Interview with Andreas Stenhager, 24,
producer.
³PR is the staff from Propaganda!
²AS is Andreas Stenhager.
³PR: Okay, Andreas! Let's introduce
yourself!
²AS: Well, I am 24 years old and
currently working in a quiet known
studio in Stockholm. I live in a
small apartment with my girlfriend
and my two years old son.
³PR: Since this interview is about
your musical knowledges, what's your
task when it comes to the studio?
²AS: Right now I've just made some
final adjustments on a new Swedish
group's first record. I'm
responsible for the final musical
product, I make sure that no voices
are louder or lower than the others
and that everything is as it should
be. That means no feedback, reverb
etc.. I am the last step in a link
of many different stages, and after
my final touches it's ready to be
released.
³PR: Do you have regular
working-hours, or is the 'myth' about
nighttime producing true?
²AS: No, the nighttime producing is
only made on the early stages of the
producing, when the group is more
involved. When it has come as far as
¶²my stage, the group barely visits the
studio at all, although certain
artists have clearer opinions than
others, and want to be a part of the
producing to the bitter end. I come
to the studio at nine in the morning
and usually leave half past six.
That means quite ordinary
working-hours, but that is not
completely true either. Some days I
have to be concentrated thirteen or
maybe fourteen hours, but other days
I can leave at three.
³PR: How long have you been in this
position, then?
²
AS: I got involved with a small
studio in October -89, i.e. four
years ago. At that time I was an
assistent to one of the mixers, but
thanks to certain contacts, I got the
opportunity to show my skills to the
current studio and I've been here
since then...
³PR: And the salary? Is it based
upon the success of the record, or is
it a certain sum?
²
AS: Well, both. I have a fixed
salary every month, but if the record
sells well, I'll of course get
royalties(not much, but money is
money!!).
³
PR: Do you have a real education or
did you start from the beginning?
²
AS: It makes me sad to say it, but
¶²in this business luck and good
contacts are more worth than an
education. But I believe that the
skills are very important, how you
have reached them does not matter.
You got to have a musical talent.
³
PR: Okay, thanks! Good luck in the
future!
²
AS: My pleasure!
